About Ensemble Manager

The balance-first workspace for band and string directors.

Ensemble Manager is a planning workspace for school band and string directors. It tracks every student's instrument assignment alongside their first and second choices, then holds the whole ensemble at a target size so a class of thirty stays balanced in every section. It replaces the whiteboard, the sprawling spreadsheet and the last-minute reshuffle the week before the first rehearsal, and it keeps a year-over-year record of who wanted to play what.

Who it is for

Music educators running concert bands, string orchestras and beginner programs: the directors, program coordinators and heads of department who have to fit a room full of eager students into a fixed number of instruments. It works as two separate workspaces, a Band Hub and a String Hub, so each program keeps its own classes, rosters and capacity targets without mixing together.

What it does

  • Live instrumentation matrix

Every instrument has a visible capacity, so you always know which sections are full and which still need players.

  • Choices and waitlists

Students are placed in their first choice when there is room, and held on a waitlist when there is not, so nobody is lost.

  • Demand you can plan with

See what your students keep asking to play and use that evidence for ordering instruments and planning budgets.

Directors also flag students who are enrolled in more than one ensemble, export a printed or CSV roster in seconds, and switch a student between their first and second choice in one tap.

Who builds it

Ensemble Manager is built and maintained by the Ensemble Manager team, working alongside music teachers rather than at a distance from them. Every feature starts as a request from a director who was short of a cellist or drowning in sign-up sheets, and it is tested against real class lists before it ships. If something in your program does not fit the app yet, tell us about it.
